Touch Screen Issues

Received the V Jan. 5, 2018. Using Edge Browser and have installed all updated drivers and am experiencing various random issues on multiple sites with touchscreen functionality which include:

  1. Can touch an entry field and keyboard doesn’t automatically open, have to manually select it and I am in tablet mode.
  2. Can touch an entry box (such as search field), and the keyboard flashes up but immediately closes giving no time to do data entry.
  3. Choice lists initiated by tapping a drop down error don’t drop down, or
  4. Choice lists initiated by tapping a drop down error flash the choices but immediately close with no time to select choice
  5. Choice list issues operated using the pencil stylus have same/similar issues.

Has anyone else had similar issues and found a resolution? Thanks.

Make sure all your drivers and updates are “up to date” because that sounds like a driver issue. A good place to start, just to see if there are any obvious issues is to explore your device manager and see if you have anything reporting an error.

Control Panel/System/Device Manager or Just type “Device Manager” in windows search.

Maybe this is obvious and have already tried this, but if not hope this helps.

Thanks Dono. Checked device manager and no evidence of errors. I updated all drivers recommended in December updates, one of which was the Touch driver.

Can you please check the settings-app in Tablet Mode if the touch keyboard does pop up when you hit the search bar there?

It should be an issue with Windows 10 as the touch works just fine and Windows does not properly pop up the keyboard.

Not sure what you want me to do. Just to clarify touches that don’t need the keyboard also do not work.

I did what you said and when I clicked on search in setting it popped the keyboard. Tried a couple different sites search and one gave the keyboard and one didn’t

This then seems to be an issue with either the site or Edge - so it’s something we can’t fix :confused:

Out of curiosity: Which pages don’t work with the keyboard popping up?

When i tap on the screen to reply to this message it does not pop up he keyboard. Other than that the site i have the most consistent issues with is www.wayfair.com where none of the drop downs work by touch and search doesn’t pop the keyboard. Thanks.

Unlike android for example windows won’t normally open the touch keyboard if you touch somewhere you can type as far as I know. Have a look if you can enable this in settings or add a shortcut for the onscreen keyboard to the taskbar.

@ToiletSheep : In tablet mode it opens whatever you touched the field with (hands → keyboard, pen → handwriting field) and in desktop mode it doesn’t open anything. Courtesy of @pauliunas :slight_smile:

@Sparky7 : Do you have your keyboard connected or disconnected while trying these things? (drop down menus are pretty weird pretty often in my experience…)

i HAVE THE KEYBOARD DISCONNECTED. pLEASE NOTE, I AM NOT YELLING AT YOU. i AM TYPING IN LOWER CASE, BUT IT IS COMING OUT AS CAPITAL LETTERS. I’m now typing with capital lock on. also interesting tonight is when i tapped the reply box for this chat, it did pop the template which it would not do last night. another site tonight where drop downs wont stay open long enough to select is amazon.com

If I understand correctly. You’re using the touchscreen keyboard and you’re getting caps when it isn’t supposed to be caps?

This happened to me earlier. Really silly. I fixed it by turning on the Bluetooth keyboard and then messing with the screen keyboard and caps button on the Bluetooth keyboard.

That’s correct. I’m using the touchscreen keyboard and the capital function is reversed. Regular keyboard is detached. I haven’t even used the Bluetooth option yet but will try your suggestion. Thanks.
