Topic to discuss the new 3000 series of Nvidia GPUs that were announced today.
3090 seems like a beast and if it can do 8K at 60 Hz it can prob do 4K at 120 Hz or higher. That price tag is a bit much though. At the moment I am looking at the 3080 as the one I will get assuming AMD does not come out with something better. The 10 GB of vRAM is a bit weird though.

I can see AMD doing a major under cut. Maybe their 6900 xt will launch at the 3070 price tag of $499? Either way, gamers win!

Yes now we have to wait for AMD’s announcement. The rumor was that they were targeting 2x performance from the 5700xt.

Also want to note that there is only 1 HDMI port like the past. This means we will be forced to use DP 1.4a for the second monitor. Not a huge deal since I can have my main monitor that I will game on use the 2.1 connection and my secondary use the 1.4a.
Also the power requirements for these are eye-watering. 350 W for the 3090 and 320 W for the 3080. That is a big step up from the 250 W of the 2080 Ti. Expect these to be mini-heaters for your room.

If that new cooling design is even half as good as they say we won’t have to worry about internal thermals unless we overclock to a crazy degree. That being said i hope that the 20gb variant of the 3080 will be able to run a model 2 and model 3. Before you point out resolution and framerate differences, im planning to use each for different tasks. For gaming id use one for the game and the other for discord/stream monitoring. For 3d rendering, one for the render image and the other for the code monitoring.

Aorus xtreme cards have 3HDMI 2.1s and 3DP 1.4s.
You can go up to 4, either 1,3 or 3,1
I’m excited to see the improvements direct storage will have. It seems to be a very important features of the new consoles so let’s see how it works on PC.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to upgrade this gen but now I want a 3090 
. Too bad it’s $1500, I’ll have to go with the 3080 then.

Really the 3090 is the Titan card except they are marketing it to gamers now. If you look at it that way they cut the price for the Titan card by $1k.
Digital Foundry put out a detailed video on them with hands-on. It seems they got to see them early.

Well, you’re right. They kind of returned to the pascal pricing if you consider the 3080 as the top-of-the-line card. But this time apparently there’s a noticeable performance upgrade to the 3090.

DSC should be fine to use 4k 144 on DP1.4
DSC is not loseless though
right , however it isn’t supposed to be noticeable in gaming situations and in content creation 144 isn’t needed. They claim it is “visually loseless”
How does everyone feel this impacts project Spectrum? need for 8k? seeing talks of other manufacturers releasing new monitors coming out soon at 360 hz, etc? Trying to decide how this impacts my reservation on 3 x QHD 240hz monitors… If I am making this 1500$ investment in monitors, should I be waiting for 360hz to better match my next Nvidia 3000 GPU?

8K is a waste on monitor sized screens outside of professional use. You have to sit about 18 inches away from a 27" screen to see any difference over 4k, and 9 inches to full resolve. https://www.rtings.com/images/optimal-viewing-distance-television-graph-size.png
