Issue With DisplayPort to HDMI Connection - No Display Detected/No Signal

I am attempting to connect my work laptop to the 4K monitor using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable and my monitor is not being detected by my laptop. In addition, I am receiving a “No Signal” message when selecting the DisplayPort connection on my monitor. To clarify, I am connecting the HDMI portion of the cable to my laptop and DisplayPort portion of the cable to the monitor. I would normally use a HDMI to HDMI cable, but the 2 HDMI ports on the monitor are being used for other devices. I am just wondering if someone else has a similar cable connection and whether they encountered any issues. I have already tried a different DisplayPort to HDMI cable and still no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi @TechGuy72,

Based on this.

Can you verify the cable can be used in Reverse?

Thanks Marvy, that was very helpful. At least, now I know I can’t connect my laptop to the monitor using a HDMI to DisplayPort cable where the HDMI port is on the laptop and the DisplayPort port is on the monitor. I did test it the other way around, by connecting my desktop PC to the monitor, using the DisplayPort on my PC and the HDMI port on my monitor, and I was able to get a signal and display the content. However, I was just hoping to use the DisplayPort on my monitor for my work laptop as I wish to use the HDMI ports for my desktop PC and PS5 console. I guess I will need to use an HDMI switcher in order to do so. The monitor would have been perfect if it had 3 HDMI ports instead of 2.

BTW, one other option I guess I have is to use the DisplayPort on both my PC and monitor, freeing up the 2 HDMI ports. However, I read that there are some slight performance advantages to using an HDMI 2.1 vs DisplayPort 1.4 connection for playing 4K games at high refresh rates. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Hi @TechGuy72,

Both are fine.

I was having a conversation about this months back and the below was stated.

I personally use the HDMI 2.1 for 4k with my PC.
