I had been looking into getting a Surface-like device for the past few years. Finally settled on getting a V last week as a treat/work tool to help me with my new job as a Games Designer as my Surface 2 RT was no longer up to the job. Pretty excited to get my hands on the device as well as to see if the V can become a productivity tool!
So if people are interested, I will keep this updated with my first thoughts on the device and come back to revisit the device a few months down the line.
Great to see crazy people still buying V’s. You’ve done everything right, mate. My V is still working well after 2 years of daily use… Now it’s retired and waiting for a new eve brother…
So I received my V a couple of hours ago so I thought I’d quickly update this thread.
First, this is the nicest device I have ever unboxed. The experience is great, well done Eve.
The device itself feels great with a nice weight to it that makes it feel like great quality. However, on closer inspection, I have noticed a few potential issues.
- I seem to have received the US keyboard for my device, although I ordered the UK keyboard.
- The trackpad seems to be sticking out of the keyboard towards the top. This is more noticeable on the top right
- This may not be unusual, but my device was already logged into a test account when I powered on the device. This I can see being normal but I have not had this with a Laptop before.
I have contacted Eve support regarding the first two issues so will update this once I have has a response.
Also, as I boxed the device away and forgot to check which version of Windows I am running, I believe I’m entitled to ask for Windows 10 Pro? If so, how can I go about getting this if my device has Home running?
Hey! First of all congrats to your V. I am still waiting for my own and am very excited to hold it in my hands. One question: When did you order it?
So I ordered on the 12th of March. Given the current global crisis, I think things will be taking a bit longer.
Ok wow that is pretty fast. I ordered “mine” on 2nd Jan.
Hmm. Have you contacted support?
Yes, of course. They tell me for three months that everything is fine with my order and that I should receive a tracking code soon. I stay positive nontheless.
Just a quick update.
Support ordered a replacement keyboard this morning free of charge - awesome customer service!
Edit: I began the setup process and noticed my screen is cracked. Hopefully, this can be dealt with as the device as barely been out of the box but I am so far becoming somewhat concerned due to my experience so far.
Nice! They told me my Eve will ship on Wednesday or Thursday!
Why are you concerned? You get a new keyboard. What bad experiences have you had?
The edit I made to the above post. I noticed a hairline crack on the screen.
Hopefully this can be dealt with. But I don’t understand how I get a device the a cracked screen and incorrect keyboard.
Will update as and when.
When you will really start to use your V, I would recommend putting a piece of cloth or something between the keyboard and the tablet. My keyboard and trackpad left scratches in the coating all over the screen. It is not really noticable when the content on the screen is white/lighter colors, but if it is dark or black it really comes thru and does not look very nice.
Thanks for the advice. I had a screen protector bundled in with the V which I was going to apply.
This is generally good advice for everything that closes to a keyboard (or something with hard edges like keyboard keys). I’ve had this on every single laptop I have ever owned. This includes +$2500 devices
I have never seen this on any device in my life and think it is an engineering flaw which should be solvable. What kind of laptops are you talking about?
Well, I had few MacBooks and one of them even 10 years old and it never happened, I never saw this problem before and I think that it is not normal that you can not normally close your device.
The older macbooks with the non glossy coating were immune I think due to the extra layer and add thickness of the bezel.
Besides that all my macbooks, hp, Asus, Acer and Samsung laptops eventually got it. Some sooner than others but they still got it
