A Windows product key is a 25-character code used to activate Windows. It looks like this:
PRODUCT KEY: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Your Windows Product Key is pre-installed in V’s BIOS/UEFI
You can find it by following steps
Run Windows PowerShell
In Windows PowerShell interface, input the following command, then click Enter
(Get-WmiObject -query 'select * from SoftwareLicensingService').OA3xOriginalProductKey
- You should be able to get your Windows product key under the command line.
Is this an retail key? Can I use it on my next computer?
No, it is OEM key, only works on the original device.
Is the pro update also an OEM key, or can that be used to update Windows Home on my next computer?
The upgrade changes the provision of the license key, it isn’t a separate key and the upgrade can’t be reused. Underneath, Windows Home and Pro are the same thing, The Professional version only means some additional features are unlocked.
If you buy V with Windows Pro, then it shipped with Windows Pro Key pre-installed. You cannot use the key for other device
