Automatic driver updates through Windows Update
Windows 10 periodically checks for the latest updates and security features and installs them automatically to keep your device running smoothly and securely. During this process, most hardware drivers required for the V are also installed on your device.
Manually checking for Windows updates
If you want to make sure your device is up-to-date, you can manually check for updates. To do this:
-
Click Start > Settings > Update & Security and select the Windows Update tab.
-
Click Check for updates.
-
Your device will contact the Windows Update service and check for any available new patch or driver.
Manually updating a specific driver
If you want to update the driver for a specific component device (e.g. network adapter, fingerprint reader), you can do so through the Device Manager
-
Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
-
Right click the device you want to update and select Update Driver.
-
Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
Download drivers from our website
Some drivers are also available from our website. This can be for a variety of reasons:
- The drivers are newer than what is available through Windows Update
It can take time before new driver files are included in Windows Update. Sometimes, the latest driver isn’t available yet through this service. You can usually just wait until Microsoft has processed the file, but if you’re in a hurry you can install it yourself. - There is a test version available for the driver.
We may have a test (or Beta) version of a driver. This may include attempts at adding features or fixing bugs, but the drivers won’t be added to Windows Update until they are thoroughly tested. - The driver isn’t available through Windows Update.
Though we try to provide as many updates as possible in the easiest way possible (automatic updates through Windows Update), some component manufacturers haven’t submitted their drivers to Microsoft. In these cases, all updates will have to be installed manually. - It’s an older driver that is known to work on the V.
It can happen that a certain program or setting doesn’t mix well with the latest driver. In these cases, a problem can sometimes be fixed by installing an older version of the driver.
You can download these drivers on the Downloads section of our support page. Special instructions may be included with the drivers, so keep an eye out for instructions.pdf if you’re not certain how to proceed with the update process.
The following drivers are known to be missing from Windows Update and require manual updates:
- Fingerprint sensor
We recommend installing the latest version of the driver. If you encounter issues with the fingerprint sensor, they can sometimes be solved by installing a previous version of the driver.
